Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Filametric.

General Information

What is a filament dryer and why do I need one?

A filament dryer removes moisture from 3D printing filament, which naturally absorbs water from the air. Wet filament can ruin your prints by causing stringing, bubbles, and poor layer adhesion. Using a filament dryer keeps your materials in optimal condition, ensuring consistent, high-quality prints and fewer failed prints. It's an essential tool if you want professional-looking results from your 3D printer.

What products does Filametric offer?

Filametric offers three products. The Solo is our high-temperature filament dryer that reaches 90°C. The DryBox is a modular chamber that works with the Solo for both active drying and passive storage. Filametric Connect is our free mobile app that gives you complete control and monitoring from anywhere.

How does the Filametric Solo work?

The Solo uses precision heating and controlled airflow to remove moisture from your filament. Fresh air continuously flows through the system while warm air circulates inside the DryBox, ensuring efficient moisture removal. Moisture escapes through the open grommets as the Solo maintains optimal drying conditions. Simply select your material on the touch display or via Filametric Connect, and the Solo handles the rest.

Performance

What temperature can the Solo reach?

The Solo reaches air temperatures up to 90°C, enabling effective drying for engineering grade filaments including TPU, PETG, ABS, ASA, and Nylon.

What modes does the Solo offer?

The Solo features three operating modes. Normal Mode uses optimized temperature and fan speed for efficient drying. Silent Mode reduces fan speed for quieter operation, ideal for overnight use. Storage Mode maintains low temperature indefinitely to keep filament dry during long-term storage.

Why do higher temperatures matter for filament drying?

Engineering filaments like TPU, PETG, ABS, and Nylon require higher temperatures for proper moisture removal. Higher temperatures mean faster, more effective drying.

How long does it take to dry filament?

Drying time depends on the material and moisture level. Most filaments dry in 4 to 12 hours at optimal temperatures. You can monitor progress in real time through the touch display or Filametric Connect app.

What materials can the Solo dry?

The Solo handles most filaments including PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS, ASA, and Nylon. With temperatures reaching 90°C, it covers the drying requirements for the majority of commonly used materials.

How does the DryBox affect drying performance?

The DryBox creates a controlled environment that maintains consistent temperature during the drying process. Its rubber grommets allow moisture to escape efficiently while keeping warm air inside. After drying, you can seal the grommets to use the DryBox as airtight storage, preventing moisture reabsorption between prints.

How does the Solo maintain consistent temperature?

The Solo uses advanced temperature control to precisely regulate heating throughout the drying cycle. This ensures stable, accurate temperatures for optimal drying performance.

App-integration

What is Filametric Connect?

Filametric Connect is our mobile app that gives you complete control over your Solo from anywhere. Monitor drying progress, adjust settings, and manage profiles directly from your phone.

Is Filametric Connect free?

Yes. Filametric Connect is completely free with no subscription fees or hidden costs.

Do I need the app to use the Solo?

No. The Solo features a 3.5 inch touch display for complete standalone operation. The app enhances your experience with additional features and remote access.

What can I do with the app?

Create custom drying profiles for your materials, monitor real time temperature and progress, receive notifications when drying completes, and access a library of recommended settings for common filaments.

Can I save custom drying profiles?

Yes. Create and save up to 12 custom profiles in the app for your specific materials and preferences. Switch between profiles with a single tap.

Can I control the Solo remotely?

Yes. With Filametric Connect, you can start, stop, and adjust drying cycles from anywhere with an internet connection.

Will the app be available for both iOS and Android?

Yes. Filametric Connect will launch on both the App Store and Google Play following our Kickstarter campaign.

Setup & Usage

How do I set up the Solo?

Connect the Solo to an outlet using the included power cord, attach a DryBox to the unit, place your filament spool inside the DryBox, and select your material on the touch display. The Solo starts drying immediately.

How does moisture escape during drying?

The DryBox features rubber grommets that must remain open during drying to allow moisture to escape. This ensures efficient moisture removal while maintaining optimal temperature. After drying, you can seal the grommets to use the DryBox as airtight storage.

Can I print while drying?

Yes. Feed filament directly from the DryBox to your printer while drying. This ensures your filament stays dry throughout the entire print.

Can I customize the settings for my filament?

Yes. Adjust temperature and time settings directly on the touch display for immediate use. To create and save custom profiles permanently, use the Filametric Connect app where you can build a complete library of your preferred configurations.

Is it safe to leave the Solo running unattended?

Yes. The Solo features triple layer safety protection including intelligent temperature cutoff, airflow monitoring, and internal temperature sensors. These systems work continuously to ensure safe operation. The Solo alerts you through an audible buzzer and, when configured, push notifications via Filametric Connect. However, as with any electronic device, we recommend following basic safety precautions and placing the Solo on a stable, heat resistant surface.

Can I use multiple DryBoxes?

Yes. DryBoxes are sold separately and can be swapped quickly. Keep multiple DryBoxes prepared with different materials for faster workflow.

How do I store filament after drying?

Detach the DryBox from the Solo and use it as a sealed storage container. This keeps your filament dry between prints without requiring continuous power.

Maintenance & Support

How do I clean and maintain the Filametric dryer?

Filametric dryers are designed to be low-maintenance. Simply check the device periodically to ensure it’s clean and all components are functioning properly. Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth if needed. No additional maintenance is required, making it a hassle-free addition to your 3D printing workflow.
